Except not on Sunday

Here are some examples of favoritism in Maryland law for Sunday as day of rest.

 

Alcoholic Beverages §11–102 

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, the hours during which alcoholic beverages may be sold or delivered to retail license holders by holders of wholesalers’ licenses are from 6 a.m. to midnight, on every day except Sundays.

 

Business Regulation §18–101 

(d) Except in Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties, and except as provided in subsections (g) and (h) of this section, a new or used car dealer may not sell, barter, deliver, give away, show, or offer for sale a motor vehicle or certificate of title for a motor vehicle on Sunday.

 

Business Regulation §18–202 

(d) A new or used car dealer may not sell, barter, deliver, give away, show, or offer for sale a motor vehicle or certificate of title for a motor vehicle on Sunday.

 

Financial Institutions §5–704 

Each banking institution shall be closed on Sunday.

 

Local Government §13–310 

(c) Unless otherwise allowed by law, a transient vendor may not sell goods on Sunday.

 

Natural Resources §4–1021.2 

(2) A person may not catch hard–shell clams with patent tongs: (i) Between sunset on any day and sunrise the following day; or (ii) On Sundays.

 

Natural Resources §10–405 

(2) Except as provided under § 10–410 of this subtitle, the Department may not authorize hunting on a Sunday.

 

Natural Resources §10–407 

(b) The Department annually shall establish and publish the open season, excepting Sundays, for doves, mergansers, woodcock, and wetland game birds, including wild waterfowl, in conformity with the federal migratory bird rules and regulations adopted annually by the Secretary of Interior of the United States.
