AB 277~Prohibits state action from substantially burdening a person's exercise of religion under certain circumstances.
SB 272~Prohibits state action from substantially burdening a person's exercise of religion under certain circumstances.
Here are two bill designed to give religious people special rights denied to others. Want to discriminate? These are your bills. You can be in the position of denying rights to all kinds of people.
The Human Rights Campaign said it right: The harm these bills may cause does not end with LGBT rights: an evangelical police officer could feel empowererd to refuse to patrol a Jewish street festival, a city clerk could refuse a marriage license to an interracial couple, a divorcee seeking to remarry, or a gay/lesbian couple; an EMT could refuse service to a dying transgender person in the street and the enforcement of other key sections of state civil rights law could be dramatically undermined.
