About the Secular Coalition for North Carolina
The Secular Coalition for North Carolina (SCNC) is an advocacy organization whose purpose is to amplify the diverse and growing voice of the nontheistic community in the state of North Carolina. The Secular Coalition for North Carolina is a state affiliated organization of the Secular Coalition for America in Washington D.C. who represent atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers and other nontheistic Americans.
While SCNC was created expressly by and for nontheistic North Carolinians, we also enthusiastically welcome the participation of religious individuals who share our view that freedom of conscience must extend to people of all religious beliefs and of none. We are not alone. An October 2012 report from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that the number of Americans who claim no religious affiliation (“nones”) reached an all-time high of 20 percent. This figure is up from 15 percent just five years ago.
