Pennsylvania

Despite the fact that there are tens of millions of nontheistic Americans, we remain one of the most marginalized groups in the country.  The Secular Coalition for America is working to make sure that we are heard on Capitol Hill. We fight in Washington DC against religious privileging on a federal level, yet some of the most egregious violations of separation of church and state are being promoted and passed at a state levelWe need your help to see real change in Harrisburg and across Pennsylvania.

The Secular Coalition for America is forming state chapters across the country. Our chapters will bring together secular Americans in each state to influence government officials, legislation, and regulations. A Secular Coalition for America state chapter is unlike any other nontheistic state organization—it brings together interested organizations and individuals for the exclusive purpose of lobbying government officials.

Proposed Resolution by PA State Rep. McGinnis (R-Blair)

Once again, representatives in the PA State House have been working hard to use the resolution system to honor religious themes in our legislature.  Here's a new resolution for us to try and stop.

Representative McGinnis has submitted this request for sponsorship here:

PA HOUSE BILL 1728, Proposing the placement of "In God We Trust" in public schools.

Rep. Rick Saccone is at it again. It was not enough for him to declare 2012 the “Year of the Bible” or pass a resolution for “National Fast Day” in PA. He is continuing his religious agenda by sponsoring PA House Bill 1728, otherwise known as the “National Motto Display Act”, that would require every public school in Pennsylvania to display the message “In God We Trust” somewhere in their buildings. This is obviously another thinly veiled attempt by Saccone to force a religious statement of faith in public schools. Letter to Stephen Bloom, (R) Cumberland in regards to the proposed "Academic Freedom" bill

Last week, we signed the following letter, sent to Rep. Stephen Bloom in regards to his proposed "Academic Freedom Bill", which will open the doors to introducing non-scientific challenges to evolution in the science classroom in public, taxpayer supported schools.  You can read the letter here:
