No one with a terminal illness should be forced to endure extended suffering due to government interference, a politician’s ideology, or a religious leader’s dogma. The Missouri Death with Dignity Act, HB 1919, would empower terminally ill individuals to end their lives on their own terms, if and when they choose to.
This legislation would ensure mentally competent adults that have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and who reside in this state to voluntarily request and receive prescription medication to hasten their imminent death. Adding this voluntary option to the spectrum of end-of-life care will give patients control, peace of mind, and dignity during their final days with family and loved ones.
