Bishop Tobin calls for 'conscientious objectors' to oppose same-sex marriage

Tobin posted a statement on his Facebook page offering support to a county clerk in Hood, Texas, Katie Lang, who was refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, despite a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Language added to the Rhode Island 2016 budget by Representative Raymond Gallison before passage somewhat balanced the last minute addition of extreme anti-abortion language submitted by Governor Gina Raimondo.

Language on abortion nestled into the 2016 Rhode Island State Budget dealing with HealthSource RI may have far reaching consequences for workers whose employers may want to claim a religious exemption from covering the procedure.

RI Senate Judiciary Committee holds Compassionate Care Act bill for further study

Last week, the Lila Manfield Sapinsley Compassionate Care Act (S0598) was heard publicly before the Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee. The committee voted unanimously to hold the bill for further study. Not all of the testimony in opposition to the bill was religious in nature. Not all religious testimony was in opposition. Action Alert: Support the Compassionate Care Act

On April 8, Democratic Representatives Edith H. Ajello, David A. Bennett, Christopher R. Blazejewski, J. Aaron Regunberg, and Teresa Ann Tanzi introduced H 5507  (“Lila Mansfield Sapinsly Compassionate Care Act”) in the Rhode Island General Assembly. This bill would allow terminally ill and medically competent adults to request and receive prescription medication to hasten a compassionate and dignified end to their suffering.
